2017 _ ๐Ÿ“ธ the first shots

From being a camper, to a counsellor, and then a swim instructor, I never thought of myself as a photographer. Then, in June of 2017, I got a job a the mall and following that I purchased my first DSLR camera. Some of my photos got some attention, but really I’ve stopped shooting for a while now.

Halifax, 2017 _ captured in the first 3 months with my camera – ironically, this is considered one of my most popular works

Recently, Iโ€™ve been hearing from friends asking me to shoot more. There aren’t many nice pics from this post, but if you’d like to see some of my early work, here’s what I’m happy with sharing.

(or prolly something cooler, but idk what to call it)

At the time it felt pretty awesome to own a “legit camera” because it seemed like unless you gotta clunky DSLR, the pictures didn’t deserve a comment. Up until then, I’ve only had a point-n-shoot camera, and a mix of different phones (a blackberry bold, a Nokia Windows phone, and a Samsung Galaxy S3).

The first set of photos were honestly pretty trash. I didn’t know the difference between all the settings, but I knew it wasn’t hard to learn, so I just decided to spend the year trying out the basics of digital photography. I used my camera to capture my surroundings – people, buildings, landscapes, and of course, my friends.

After a while, I began to think ‘maybe this is what all the hipsters rave about’ – holding this heavy amalgamation of modular metal n glass contraptions made my pictures just “feel better”. This feeling evolved into a hobby, and I started to bring it around taking pictures of almost everything. When I visited home, in Ontario, it was my sidekick.

I haven’t shot anything in a while. Maybe I should return to my camera, capture my surroundings, and make something look as it had felt.
